FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
1. I am considering joining the Ottawa Real Estate Investor’s Organization (OREIO), can I attend a meeting before making a decision?
- Absolutely! As a matter of fact, we encourage you to attend one of our monthly meetings as a guest before making a decision as to whether you wish to join the Ottawa Real Estate Investor’s Organization as a member. The cost is $20.00 per meeting for a guest (or non-member). You may attend any number of meetings as a guest or a non-member.
2. I paid for my membership at the OREIO meeting last night, when will I get access to the system?
- If a membership is paid at a meeting, the system is manually updated within a few days. If you registered on line and paid through PayPal, the system should be automatically updated. If you have not received a confirmation e-mail within one week, or cannot access the system within the first week, please advise membership@oreio.org. Occasionally, a system glitch will require that we reset the password.
3. The OREIO system shows my expiry as September 9, 2010, why does my membership card say August 2011?
- A membership card gives you access to ten (10) monthly meetings (currently no meetings in July and August) and your card will reflect the expiry as the end of the 12th month. This makes it equitable for all in that no one is now is given access to a lesser or greater amount of meetings than the membership allows, based solely on a system date.
- Example: If you became a member or renewed your membership at the September 14, 2010 meeting, September 2010 is your first eligible meeting, October is your second 2nd... August is the 12th. You will be given all of the member benefits until the end the 12th month, in this example, until the end of August 2011.
- System access may differ slightly in days depending if you were manually input and activated (you paid by cheque or cash), or if you paid using PayPal (by credit card) on the OREIO website. When paying by PayPal, your account is automatically activated, however, your printed membership card will still reflect an expiry at the end of the 12th month, giving you access to ten (10) monthly meetings from the date of your system registration.
- Example: If you paid through PayPal September 19, 2010, which is after the September meeting, your first eligible meeting will be October, which means your 12th month will be reflected as an expiry of September 2011 on your membership card.
4. I have upgraded to a joint membership by adding my spouse, how come his/her membership is only nine months and not twelve?
- The key word is “upgraded”. When a spouse or a business partner is added to a current active membership, the additional member’s expiration date will be the same as the primary member The cost to upgrade to the joint membership is the full cost difference between the single membership and the joint membership and is payable upon adding the additional member. If this is not acceptable, then each member can apply and pay for an individual membership.
- Please note that a joint membership cannot be paid by PayPal and must be paid by cash or cheque. Each member of the joint membership is registered as an individual in the OREIO database and must provide a separate e-mail address. Membership cards are provided to each individual, even if the joint membership is paid by a business.
5. My spouse and I cannot attend together, could we pay for one membership and receive two cards so that we may alternate attendance?
- No. Each card represents one individual with one membership, or one member of a joint membership. A joint membership already represents a great value for two people.
6. I have not cancelled my subscription, so why would Paypal send you a message saying it was cancelled?
- PayPal will occasionally send a cancel message which could be for any number of reasons, and these are not necessarily reflective of the situation. For instance, if your credit card expired, or if you tried to change the expiry date in the system, we will at times get a message that your subscription has been cancelled. In these instances, we may contact you to verify if that was indeed your intention. Should you experience any problems with PayPal, please advise us at membership@oreio.org and treasurer@oreio.org so that the problem can be looked into and rectified.
