Privacy Act - PIPEDA

This month, we have guest speakers regarding the privacy act and it's affect on real estate investors. As of January 1, 2004, every business became subject to the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA"). This new law regulates how businesses can collect, use and disclose personal information. As a landlord you are considered a business and therefore you must comply with PIPEDA. There is no "grand-fathering" for information collected prior to January 1, 2004. Canadian Privacy Solutions Inc. will speak at the next meeting to discuss this topic and answer any questions you may have.
