Hi folks,
For the longest time, a property of mine had an undeveloped lot behind it (i.e connecting backyards). The owner of the property recently built a set of townhouses on this property and has now approached me to build a fence along the line separating the two properties. Given that I do not have a survey of my property, I do not know the exact location of the line. Of course, I can speculate where the line is based on where the neighbouring properties end under the assumption that all the properties were severed symmetrically. Knowing the dimensions of my property, I suppose I can also measure it. In both cases, I end up with what I would consider to be a rough estimate of where the lot line is. Are fences generally built based on a rough estimate of where the line is or is there generally a more "scientific" approach to this? I certainly do not have any intentions of taking the builder's word for where the lot line is because I have no way of validating it.
Given the circumstances and my expectations, is a survey of my property the only way that I can address this? If so, does anyone have any recommendations for a good surveyor? Are there are any other resources or suggestions that may be useful in resolving this issue?
Thanks for your help
