    I understand.

You haven't been at OREIO in over 5 years. Your attacks are inappropriate and are a reflection of a style that frankly doesn't belong at OREIO.

We did a full half-day of hands on real estate training in January. We delivered the equivalent of 4 months of regular monthly content in one day and received rave reviews.

The OREIO members who have been in attendance and participated know that they've been getting exceptional value for $127 a year.

I'm running for President to make OREIO even better.

I think that everyone has made some valid points, yet the only point that matters here is the feedback from the members.

We have CLEAR feedback from Sonya stating that her expectations as a new OREIO member have not been met over the last few months, and I am certain, based on feedback I have personally gotten from members that she is NOT alone in feeling this disappointment.

The job of the executive is to LISTEN to their members and deliver what they are looking for, not to continue bringing on speakers that they feel to be important.

I am a fairly new member to OREIO and brand new to real estate investing. I was really hoping for more Canadian content in the talks. The last 3 talks were all American guys. And the last one didn't even talk about real estate. Really disappointing! I was really hoping to get some great insights about real estate from Robert. Here's hoping we get Canadian speakers in the future!

This is a bit of mis-representation. We had 20% outside content that was focused on big picture. For an organization like OREIO, I believe that's appropriate.

We're talking about folks like Chris Martenson, Russell Gray, Tom Burns. These presentations were epic.

It's funny how I'm being attacked by both candidates as if I am in the incumbent. I haven't been President at OREIO for three years. I am not the incumbent. I'm running because I want to bring positive change to OREIO.

Thanks Michael for digging up the numbers. Based on the numbers below, 55% of the meeting content was non-Ottawa content and speakers. That is very high. I'm 100% for moving the organization to be more Ottawa centric. This ties into my other platform ideas.

I read thru the list of speakers the other day and I think the number of motivational type speakers is higher but that's just how I categorize things :)

My preferred approach if I'm elected President will be to survey the members about which topics are most important to them.

Christian posted a comment about this topic on my Facebook page and here was my response to it:

"Let me explain what I mean by no more US investing information and speakers. I agree with you that US economic forces affects us and investors should be aware of them. I disagree that international speakers are required to present economic fundamental information to OREIO members.

I do not agree that OREIO members need or want US motivational speakers, US TV show stars, or how to buy, repair, manage, build property in the US. There are Meetup groups in Ottawa that focus only on US investing and members can join those - this is where my collaboration and the healthy competition idea comes into play. Providing US investing info and speakers will take away from making OREIO more Ottawa centric (I'm getting lots of positive response for this idea).

Based on my discussions with OREIO members lately, there is a higher demand for information about investing in Gatineau than the US.

This is part of the platform that I've shared with members and I believe in this direction - unless the membership tells us otherwise."

Thanks for doing the number crunching Michael. This resonates with my recollection as well. I believe we need to maintain a balance of local, domestic and international speakers.

I'm not sure why there is a sudden polarization against international speakers among some of the candidates. I believe we need a healthy mix and international speakers bring a global context to our investment thinking. Ottawa and Canada are not islands and we will gain much from understanding where we fit in that context from an outsiders point of view (non-Canadian bias). But indeed, we also have many local successes and they should continue to be highlighted to show that we have local talent that we can more easily resonate with.

I have read some issues and comments about Ottawa and Canadian content at OREIO for the past couple of years.  The following is a list compiled of content type speakers from 2017 to 2020 current.

    11 - 28% Ottawa Market Speakers / Meetings

    14 - 35% Canadian Provincial Market Speakers

    8 - 20% US Market Speakers

    6 - 15% Keynote Speakers (Mindset / Motivational)
