    Tony,

You didn't answer the question. How would your proposal of forcibly barring capable people from participating in any role on the executive help OREIO?

I know why they don't run. Being on the executive is real work and many are scared of the added commitment.

Let me be more clear. If I hadn't personally reached out and asked people to run, we would have had four vacant positions on the executive during this election.

Your idea makes no sense whatsoever.

The term limit was 2 years long before your time at OREIO. Then it was changed but I don't know when.

Have you considered why people don't come forward as candidates?

Maybe you have, but have you asked the membership why they don't come forward? I have, and there are ways to increase the participation levels so that other capable people can step in and help the organization.

We have been in elections before and we both know that there are pros and cons to term limits.

Luckily this year, OREIO members have 3 candidates for President to choose from.

Membership will determine what makes sense - voting in someone new with different ideas about how the organization can be lead, or voting in someone who has already sat on the Executive for the past 7 years. I'm totally cool with whatever the members decide.

I do know that if I'm lucky enough to be elected President, one of the first things I will organize is a lessons learned discussion about this year's elections so that the processes can improved.

Right now there is a three year term limit in any one position on the executive. OREIO has struggled for years to attract people to participate on the executive.

Even this year, out of the eight positions on the executive, only three were contested, four were acclaimed with a single candidate, and one had no nominee.

Under your proposal, you would bar capable people who are interested in contributing from doing so. Please explain how your proposal to forcibly retire capable people would actually help OREIO?

    This makes no sense.

    Hi all,

I'll be sharing my thoughts and ideas over the next few days about how I will add value to the membership and the organization. I guess you can consider the following points (posted in no particular order) as part of my election platform - with additional points to follow.

More importantly, I'm interested in knowing what the membership wants! It's your organization so please post your ideas, thoughts, wants, and needs below. Or, you can email me instead at tony@tonymiller.ca, whatever is easier for you.

    1) I will steer the organization to be more Ottawa centric in terms of speakers and topics. We have tons of talent, experience, and knowledge within the organization and I think it's time to showcase this fact.

    2) Educating members about joint ventures, fix & flips, wholesaling and other tactics and strategies is okay and needed. But there is so much more to investing including how to be a landlord. The number one gap that I see with landlords is that they don't know how to set up and operate a successful investing business, and many simply don't know the rules! So, my plan is incorporate "The Business of Landlording" into some of our meetings (monthly or ad hoc) so that members will have some additional knowledge and tools to help them operate their businesses. Maybe this topic will be one of the first ad hoc meetings (we will have to come up with a name for these irregular get togethers that I have planned)!

    3) I think it's necessary to limit the consecutive number of years that someone can run or sit on the Executive. I think that number is 3 years maximum. I will change the bylaws to reflect this, with membership approval, if I am elected President.

    I think that's all for tonight :)

I'll post more tomorrow or on Friday....

    Tony
